Item number at IIT bash

Professional bellydancers bared their midriffs and shook their hips in front of a packed auditorium.

Few would have batted an eyelid, but the event was IIT Bombay’s Orientation bash for freshmen. It was the first time that professional bellydancers have performed at any of the IITs.

The incident certainly grabbed eyeballs and set students from other colleges talking. The students maintain that it was all in good fun and there was no eroticism involved. One student commented that all "were enthralled" by the dance.

According to reports, IIT authorities have refrained from commenting, but it was learnt that the dancers were hired by students.
