Fourth Generation Cellular Network, or 4G, is now the state-of-the-commercially-available-art for cellular service, and is billed as the natural and necessary progression of technology, but is it for everyone? For some folks, the sizzle is enough; blindingly fast service, coupled with loads of new “apps” means someone has the coolest new toy on the block. But, if flash and dash are not your overriding concerns, you may want to consider a number of factors before you shell out money for a new system. Here, we have several reasons for making the switch to 4G; you should factor the importance of these items into your decision-making process.
- Speed – Cellular data speed is touted as being as much as 10 times faster than current 3G service, and, in a time-is-money world, speed can be a deciding factor when choosing technologies. No business will want to be left behind.
- Availability – 3G service still doesn’t reach many rural areas. 4G capabilities will enable cellular service to reach many spots that never had service, using existing 3G towers, and 4G will improve reception in areas where service had been spotty.
- More Apps – 4G allows for more and faster communication, via streaming video, e-mail and social networking, among others. Video-conferencing applications, much faster than 3G, will be important tools for long-distance business.
- Better Graphics – For gamers and business users alike, the improved graphics of 4G networks will prove a boon; animation is much sharper, and the action is much smoother.
- Security – In the never-ending battle of good v evil, 4G security systems are harder to penetrate, an important point for both the commercial and home user.
- Capacity – Quantum improvements in data-transfer and data-storage make 4G very attractive; there is a concern that present-day 3G technologies may soon be overwhelmed with information.
- Gaming – Gaming may be frivolous, but the gaming industry is a major focus of 4G technology; billions of dollars are spent on gaming every year. 4G offers never-before quality in graphic design, allowing greater possibilities for game designers to dazzle a public that craves all-things-new.
4G is here to stay, that is, here to stay until 5G comes along, and the question today, for many consumers, is when, not if, to make the leap from 3G to 4G. Businesses need to stay abreast of the field, and home users like the greater speed, and multi-tasking applications. Residents of rural areas can now connect to the global community without leaving the bucolic surroundings of the country.
Many companies now offer some form of 4G service, but prices, packages and service can vary widely, so it pays to shop and compare before investing in a new product.
