The heart of the technology is ANEAROBIC DIGESTER which can handle the solid organic composable and biodegradable matter and has capacity to absorb the shock loading.
The MSW collected from various part of the city shall be received in storage area thereafter, entire treatment consists of 5 stages namely:
Beneficiation
Slurry formation and charging
Anaerobic Digestion
Dewatering
Effluent Treatment and Disposal
The stage wise process is briefly described below and is depicted in the flow sheet as per fig. No.1.
a. Beneficiation:
The inert matter, plastics etc. need to be separated before the MSW is subjected to anaerobic digester. This required pretreatment to remove above matter by deploying various material handling and segregation equipments. The segregated matter can be safely disposed of or can be sold or used for filling low lying area in the dump yard and land reclamation.
The remainder of the pretreatment is enriched source of organic matter along with some fine earth or sand.
b. Slurry formation and charging:
The remainder of pre-treatment will be subjected to pre-acidification and will be made into pumpable slurry with the help of reactor effluent and charged into the anaerobic reactor.
c. Anaerobic Digestion:
The anaerobic reactor, charged with above slurry will be operated at 550 C or more temperature. Where the organic putricible matter will be stabilized biologically. Large quantity of methane rich gas will be generated. The mixing of the reactor contents would be achieved by recycling the gas with the help of a bowler and gas distribution network in the reactor. At same time the methane rich gas can be taken out via pipes for further application. During entire process, effluent reactor gets discharged.
d. Dewatering:
Effluent from reactor will be subjected to dewatering by either a high speed centrifugal or a filler press solid contents of the effluent get converted into cake having a moisture content of approximately 40% to 50% which can be used as stabilized manure and the remaining liquid goes for effluent treatment.
e. Effluent treatment:
The above liquid will be subjected to ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS so that it can be treated for final disposal and will be of irrigation water quality. Part of this water will be recycled as wash water in the pre-treatment section of the plant and the remaining quantity will be used for irrigating the land within the battery area.
